Session Seven Summary

Before completing their mission, the team are recalled for a special assignment. Passing on the intelligence they've so far gathered on O'Render to a relief team they are ordered to proceed directly to Prita Preela. There they will participate in the bi-annual Sector Military war games.

The Preelan Games

War games are held on the planet Prita Preela in the Soquus system (0500) bi-annually, in April and again in October. The Sector Military assigns participating units to two opposing battle groups. These groups, usually given names to highlight their rivalry (this year the sides are called Solid and Fluid) are then given nearly free reign to battle it out for 30 days, or until one side emerges the clear victor. There has never, in the 126 year history of the war games been a side that has surrendered. There have been several times that the assigned, neutral judges, have been unable to chose a victor based on their observations. In such cases, the judges, a panel of 16 military members chosen in equal number from each side, and consisting of various ranks from enlisted privates to general officers refer their findings to the supreme Church body, the Onmyou, who then render a final decision.

Church Military also participate in the war games, though not in the same manner as the Sector Military. Church units are not made to oppose each other, but rather are sent to cause disruption among the Sector Military units by attacking as "rebel guerrilla" units. Over the last few decades the Church units have worn uniforms similar to Selosian Warriors and have included captured Selosian warships in their fleets.

The war games are used by Sector Military commanders for training as well as a morale booster and a means to instill a strong esprit de corps among the whole of the military. Live munitions are often used to lend an air of absolute realism to the engagements and while safety is of concern, most commanders eschew it so as not to limit their personnel in the field. Casualties are an accepted result of the war games, giving medical units much needed true to life battlefield experience that has proven invaluable over the years when generals do send their soldiers into the line of fire on Selos II, or any other planet requiring military intervention.

Church Black Ops Mission One

Team Six's first war games mission is a "King of the Hill" exercise.

The team are to take the HQ building of the Fluid Army's 55th Infantry Battalion. Once captured the team will hold their position against Solid Army's attacks, without giving away their true identity. This exercise will last three days.

Should the team remain in control of the building at the end of the exercise the mission will be considered a success. Any other outcome will be considered a failure. Good Luck!

Mission Notes:

  1. The team may only take with them what they can carry on their persons.

  2. No mechs or vehicles will be allowed. Captured mechs or vehicles are fair game.

  3. Should a team member require outside medical attention, the exercise will end and be considered a failure.

  4. While killing of the "enemy" is allowed, discretion is recommended.

  5. XP, commendations and other rewards will be handed out at the conclusion of a successful mission.

  6. No rewards of any sort will be given for a failed mission.

Following is a team report of the mission:

A Report on the Preelan War Games

-Thisby Preem

In a roughly twelve-hour span the black-ops team of the Informal Measure was able to secure Fluid Battalion's HQ, subdue the entire force without harm and repel the invaders of Solid Battalion.

The failures of Fluid Company are an insult to Mother Church and an affront to God Herself.

Our team was able to enter the compound, which had been surrounded with dozens of troops, undetected through a sewer tunnel. The security cameras were hacked into 'OFF' positions as we emerged into an unsecured basement location. An empty hallway and a closed door revealed a larger room and very little security, either electronic or otherwise. 'Elite Guards' fell quickly and quietly, though we immediately extended medical treatment to any we may have treated too roughly.

Most shocking was the unguarded water filtration system which had been set up in the adjoining room. Two 'elites' and three regular foot soldiers were captured on the basement level and no other resistance was met. An unsecured terminal provided more information than an invading enemy should ever be able to download.

Then, a simple concoction dispersed through the water system managed to affect every battalion soldier. Within eight hours the entire HQ was non-lethally subdued. Independent Judges witnessed the binding transfer of power.

It is at this point that Fluid company and their HQ were under control of the Informal Measure team.

Final Assessment: Disastrous mismanagement of the company and inability to secure the facility allowed a small squad to pluck control directly from the highest ranking officers on the field. This was not a failure of enlisted infantrymen or their training. We believe this was a failure of leadership and tactical awareness on part of the Battalion Commander.

Substantial Penance is recommended.
