THE BEASTS OF SAMANIS

The Samanis biosphere is remarkably diverse. Every beast, insect and plant has evolved a mechanism to survive the harsh, frozen environment. Whether utilizing internal temperature stabilization, external covering of some sort or a hibernation strategy, each species has become supremely adapted to the consistently frozen  globe.

LERLOD

Standing fully erect at 25 feet and with 2 powerful legs, the Lerlod can run at a top speed of 50 miles per hour. An omnivore, subsisting mainly on freshwater fish and small fowl, this beast is quite aggressive with respect to its territorial

boundaries. During the rutting season, every 7 months, Lerlod males are known to roam and attack anything of relatively similar size they encounter, including predators and large vegetation.

UNKAR

Fifteen feet at the shoulder, the Unkar are a wide range grazing herbivore with a single horn at the center of their head. The horn is present on both the male and female of the species and has been found to grow as long 20 feet on older males.

In most cases, Unkar are not aggressive, though they have been known to band together to protect weaker members of their herd. When pursued by predators, they will stampede at 25 to 30 miles per hour, leveling anything in the path of their massive hooves. Herds of several thousand are a common sight in the equatorial regions of Samanis

SOCHAID

Sochaids are omnivorous scavenging hunters. Standing over 20 feet at the shoulder, Sochaids are one of the fiercest predators on Samanis. They are extremely territorial and roam their expansive range alone or with their mate. When confronted by another of the species, they will rear up on their hide legs to intimidate their opponent. On their hide legs, they can stand as tall as 40 feet. The Sochaid's top speed is about 30 miles per hour.

IPHREADON

An amphibian species, the Iphreadon is a massive predatory beast, which prefers aquatic hunting, but can be deadly on land as well.

This truly alien species can use its four superior appendages, its tail and the smaller appendages on its head to suction grapple its prey and inject it with digestive enzymes.

Growing as long a 250 feet, with half the length being its tail, the Iphreadon is one of the largest creatures on Samanis and the largest to venture onto land.

SCREKAHNOTH

The Screkahnoth is the fastest land creature in the known sector. Clocked at a top straight line speed of 120 miles per hour, this predator hunts in packs of 5 to 10 and has been known to take down prey more than 10 times its size and weight.

The Screkahnoth are relatively humanoid in size and physique with a second set of grasping appendages growing from their rib cage. From nose to tip of tail, a fully grown female measures approx. 15 feet.
