Session Zero Trial Round

Vanx has been with Specter 77 for little more than a year. He was assigned as a charter member of Strike Team Upsilon and since its inception the team has undertaken seven missions with a 100% success rate. Just last month Vanx was promoted to Katzín, a junior officer of Specter 77.

Now, after a 4 day furlough on O'Render, the team is assigned a new mission. The Solosians, a fierce and proud people had set up a secret base of operations on Gudrunn in the Polymen system but a local Jelq spy network caught wind of them and got word to the sector government.

From the outset, things fall apart. After their shuttle touches down on Gudrunn, the team comes under immediate fire from a concealed enemy. In the first few moments they lose 2 of their fellow team members. Apparently surrounded, the team is pinned down. They aren't able to flee, nor fight back in any meaningful way. After a few hours, the inevitable outcome becomes clear. The commander finally offers surrender and they are taken prisoner by Selosian warriors.

Once in custody, it became clear that somehow, the Selosians discovered the mission to take them out. Though subjected to torture, Vanx held himself together and managed to survive without divulging anything the Selosians could use to their advantage. After two weeks, Vanx spotted an opportunity to make an escape.

His guard, a lone, ragged teenage boy with a laser rifle nodded off and Vanx made his move. He lunged at the boy, knocking him to the ground and kicked him in the face while wrestling the rifle away. He leveled the weapon at his enemy and pulled the trigger. It clicked and did nothing. As the boy came at him, Vanx swung the rifle and took him down for the last time.

Quietly, he took out each of the guards watching his teammates, freeing them and his commanding officer, a Seren of Specter 77 named Andreas Heilig.

Once making their way through a dangerous terrain, in the middle of the night, hunted by a small band of Selosian warriors, they manage to find a Jelq spy network safehouse. They are taken in and protected until the Navy is able to send a ship to spirit them away.

On the ship in orbit above Gudrunn, the remaining team is debriefed by a powerful Specter 77 psychic. During his debriefing, Vanx is flatly accused of being a spy for the Selosians. Vanx protests vehemently, but to no avail, as it is soon discovered that his commander, Seren Heilig is the one who made the accusation. The psychic interrogator tries pushing Vanx to the breaking point, accusing his entire race of siding with Selos. Over and over he probes his mind, reaching into his psyche and finding nothing to prove him a spy, as all the while Vanx continues to proclaim his innocence. The interrogator doesn't believe him.

There is no reprieve as he is taken away, stripped of his rank and all hope, locked in a small cell in the bowels of the ship for the duration of the journey to Red Colony. There, he is told, without a hearing of any sort, he is to be kept for the rest of his natural life.
